Summary: The Senior VMware & Automation Engineer will lead the automation of VM lifecycle management and infrastructure provisioning in a secure, large-scale environment. This role requires a blend of VMware engineering skills and DevOps/IaC expertise to create efficient and reliable workflows. The ideal candidate will focus on optimizing automated processes while ensuring compliance and scalability in VM operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and optimise automated VM provisioning and lifecycle workflows using PowerCLI, VMware Aria, APIs, and IaC tooling.
  • Define and improve automation approaches for VM creation, configuration, retirement, scaling, monitoring, and policy enforcement.
  • Evaluate and recommend tooling choices (e.g., PowerCLI, Aria Automation, Terraform, Ansible) based on VMware-native features, security requirements, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage and optimise VM operations across vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and integrated VMware platforms.
  • Work closely with platform SMEs (e.g., Linux/Windows experts) to ensure their work is supported by reliable and automated VM provisioning pipelines.
  • Support and improve VMware ecosystem components including NSX, vSAN, DRS, backup tooling, performance monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain accurate documentation aligned with government, audit, and security requirements.
  • Contribute to resilience, continuity, and disaster-recovery strategies.

Key Skills:

  • 7+ years of VMware engineering experience in enterprise or government environments.
  • Deep expertise with vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, VM lifecycle operations, and VMware best practices.
