The position requires defining best practices for dataset design and report development while mentoring business users on Power BI capabilities. The architect will also collaborate with data engineering teams and ensure optimal data governance and security practices. This is a remote position aimed at experienced professionals with a strong background in business intelligence and Power BI architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and implement scalable, governed Power BI solutions that enable self-service reporting across business domains.
  • Define and enforce best practices for dataset design, semantic modeling, and report development.
  • Design enterprise data models (star/snowflake schemas) that balance usability and performance for self-service consumers.
  • Establish a centralized semantic layer using Power BI datasets, dataflows, and shared models.
  • Develop governance frameworks including:
    • Data certification and endorsement processes
    • Workspace strategy and access controls
    • Naming conventions and metadata standards
  • Enable and mentor business users on Power BI capabilities, data literacy, and report development best practices.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure optimal data ingestion, transformation, and storage strategies.
  • Design and implement row-level security (RLS) and data access policies aligned with enterprise security requirements.
  • Optimize performance of large-scale datasets and reports (import, DirectQuery, composite models).
  • Lead BI tool integration within the broader data ecosystem (e.g., Azure, data warehouse, APIs).
  • Evaluate and implement CI/CD pipelines and version control for Power BI artifacts.
  • Drive adoption of self-service analytics while preventing data silos and report sprawl.
  • Provide architectural oversight and technical leadership across BI initiatives.
