Summary: The IBM Z Technical Specialist - Db2 System Programmer will collaborate with the IBM Mainframe team to install, customize, and maintain the IBM Z DB2 environment. This role is integral to supporting the client Technology team, which is experiencing significant growth and investment. The position involves various responsibilities, including DB2 upgrades, performance reviews, and security administration. Candidates should possess strong technical leadership skills and a background in banking or finance is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, customize, and maintain the IBM Z DB2 environment.
- Support DB2 upgrades and maintenance, performance reviews, and security administration.
- Understand and work with ISV products from IBM, Broadcom, and Computer Associates (CA).
- Create documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Provide operations support and interact with service centers for problem escalations and resolutions.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
- 8-12 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with installation, customization, and maintenance of DB2 for z/OS.
- Sound knowledge in SMPE for MVS environment.
- Excellent knowledge of relational database concepts of DB2 in z/OS.
- Proficiency in using DB2 tools from IBM, Broadcom, and other vendors.
- Good knowledge in performance tuning, database sizing, and security.
- Experience with RACF/ACF2 DB2 security rules and access authority.
- Strong problem determination skills and communication abilities.
- REXX programming skills and familiarity with coding languages like Rexx and CLIST.

Role Description:
The IBM Z Technical Specialist will work with the IBM Mainframe team to install, customize, and maintain the IBM Z DB2 environment. This role will support the client Technology team, which has received extensive investments and will continue to undergo rapid expansion throughout 2027 and beyond.
Here's what you can expect:
As IBM Z Technical Specialist - Db2 System Programmer you will be a part of several functions within the job involving multiple products and technologies, including but not limited to support and maintain the Db2 environment as well as the functional testing for the tertiary backup environment. You will be involved in DB2 upgrades and maintenance, performance reviews, access and security administration for DB2 systems, installing and maintaining DB2 Tools for zOS. You will be required to understand the supporting ISV products particularly from the vendors; IBM, Broadcom and Computer Associates (CA).
General Skills
Experience working on several large complex projects in an architectural role designing and implementing technical solutions to commercial problems.
Excellent problem determination skills and the ability to detect and control any processing anomalies or system errors.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills, particularly when conveying complex information, and the ability to build effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust.
Banking/Finance background would be beneficial.
Technical Requirements
Installation, customization and maintenance of DB2 for z/OS and related products.
Sound knowledge in SMPE required for MVS environment.
Excellent knowledge of relational database concepts of DB2 in z/OS.
Proficiency in using DB2 tools from IBM, Broadcom and other vendors.
Good knowledge in performance & tuning, database sizing, system support, security and documentation.
Implement RACF/ACF2 DB2 security rules and Access authority.
Good experience with software maintenance.
Knowledge in planning and designing databases.
DB2 monitoring software.
Good Knowledge on IBM utilities, JCL, access methods and file structures
Good Knowledge in Disaster Recovery
Create documentation and SOP's.
Provide Operations Support
Interaction with Service Center and other business support areas for problem escalations, resolutions, reporting and coordination.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology or a related discipline preferred.
8-12 years of relevant work experience.
Good understanding of ITIL processes and procedures.
Strong overall technical leadership skills.
