Summary: The Senior Backend JavaScript Engineer will work on a digital publishing platform, focusing on designing and building scalable APIs and AI-powered content services. This role involves developing, maintaining, and supporting digital products while collaborating with team members to enhance functionality. The position is a 6-month fixed-term contract with a hybrid working arrangement based in West London. The engineer will report to the Lead UI Developer and contribute to both technical and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Immerse yourself in the technical ecosystem
  • Develop and test new features, and support existing ones
  • Build reusable code, packages, and libraries for future use
  • Optimise code for maximum speed and scalability against agreed performance budgets
  • Use testing frameworks to ensure automated test coverage for platform functionality
  • Collaborate with other team members including Delivery Managers and Product Owners to help plan new functionality or major enhancements
  • Write and improve technical documentation where necessary

Key Skills:

  • Developing JavaScript APIs and services using Node.js and TypeScript
  • Working with Node.js/TypeScript within large-scale projects
  • Experience with distributed systems, scalability, and cloud architecture (preferably AWS)
  • Building and working with mixed data formats (structured and unstructured) and storage solutions (e.g. blob storage, MySQL, document storage)
  • Building and integrating RAG pipelines
  • Building and maintaining multi-step workflows and AI-orchestrated processes
  • Understanding LLM integration patterns
  • Implementing AI solutions using AWS or equivalent technologies, including: Model access and orchestration (e.g. Amazon Bedrock), Vector and semantic search (e.g. Amazon OpenSearch)

About the role:

You’ll be working on a modern digital publishing and content platform to design and build scalable APIs and AI-powered text, audio, and video content services that integrate internal systems with third-party platforms. Reporting to the Lead UI Developer, the Senior JavaScript Engineer will be expected to develop, maintain, and support digital products in accordance with business and technology objectives.

Responsibilities:
