Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Product Owner with deep expertise in life insurance and reinsurance administration systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong operational knowledge of insurance processes, platform modernization, and legacy system management. This role will act as a critical bridge between business, actuarial, and engineering teams, driving platform evolution, migration, and high-quality delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage the product backlog, roadmap, and release planning for life insurance/reinsurance platforms.
- Drive end-to-end platform delivery, balancing client requirements, regulatory needs, and technical priorities.
- Lead platform migration and modernization initiatives, including dependency mapping, sequencing, and rollback strategies. Work closely with engineering teams to review architecture, APIs, database design, and deployment pipelines.
- Manage legacy systems with multiple client-specific variants, ensuring maintainability and consistency.
- Collaborate across engineering, QA, operations, actuarial, and business teams to ensure aligned execution. Translate business needs into clear technical requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria. Ensure smooth coordination across development, testing, and production support teams.
- Provide inputs into system design, solution architecture, and technical decision-making.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements and ensure system compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement, platform standardization, and process optimization initiatives.
Key Skills:
- Deep understanding of life reinsurance administration systems - treaty structures, premium/claims cashflows, billing cycles, settlement, regulatory reporting. Operational knowledge, not actuarial theory.
- Experience with at least one enterprise insurance/reinsurance platform similar to TAI. Knows what these systems do under the hood.
- Legacy codebase management - has dealt with multi-variant/multi-fork systems and understands the complexity of maintaining divergent client-specific versions.
- Platform migration planning - can map dependencies across client variants, sequence migrations, define rollback strategies. Has done this before, ideally in an insurance context.
- Technical fluency - reads architecture documents, understands API design, database schema decisions, deployment pipelines. Doesn't write code but can challenge engineering decisions credibly.
- Backlog management and release planning - experienced with agile/iterative delivery, can prioritise across competing client demands, regulatory changes, and technical debt.
- Cross-team coordination - works effectively between engineering, QA, BPO, and client-facing teams. Comfortable being the bridge between business intent and technical execution.
- Regulatory awareness - working familiarity with US GAAP / Statutory reporting for life insurance, and implications on admin systems.
- Exposure to actuarial concepts at a conversational level - reserving, cashflow modelling, experience studies. Not an actuary but not lost when actuarial terminology comes up.
- Strong documentation and specification skills - can write clear technical requirements, acceptance criteria, and system design briefs.
