The Opportunity

Masse is a 40-person SEO agency that has scaled entirely through word-of-mouth, delivering our signature Content at Scale and Manufacturing Consensus campaigns to ambitious tech companies at the cutting edge of AI, robotics and telehealth. With an audacious 2026 growth plan and an agentic roadmap already in motion, we need a Director of SEO & AEO who can go beyond just delivering campaigns and can play the leading role in how Masse delivers SEO & AEO for our clients. This is a genuine ownership role. You'll set strategy at the company level, lead and grow the Strategy team, own performance across the full client portfolio, and sit at the intersection of our SEO craft and our engineering work. And you’ll do it all while working with some of the fastest-growing tech companies in history.

What You'll Own

  • SEO & AEO Strategy : Company-level direction and client-level execution. You set the standard, from how we approach LLM-native search to how we win on classic organic SERPs. The team delivers it.
  • Team Leadership : Build, develop and hold a high-performance Strategy team accountable to exceptional outcomes. You hire well, raise the bar, and make the team better over time.
  • Portfolio Performance : Own traffic, revenue, visibility and performance metrics across every client engagement. When results plateau, novel problems arise or something breaks, you're the one who diagnoses it.
  • Agentic Tooling : Partner with Engineering to build the agentic systems and internal tooling that help us 10x the impact our team can deliver. You shape what gets built and deploy it in real-world conditions.
  • “Manufacturing Consensus” AEO Framework: Advance and deploy our proprietary approach to winning in AI-generated answers and LLM-native search. This is our IP and our competitive edge; you'll evolve it as the search landscape continues to shift.

Responsibilities

  • Set SEO and AEO strategy at the company level and own how we apply it across every client engagement.
  • Lead the Strategy team — hiring decisions, standards, performance conversations, career development.
  • Own strategy accountability on new and existing clients from pitch through ongoing optimisation.
  • Be the first call when something difficult, high-visibility or genuinely novel lands on the table
  • Build the playbooks, processes and frameworks that let the team scale consistently without you in every room.
  • Advance our Manufacturing Consensus AEO framework in response to new techniques and technology changes from the major answer engines.
  • Own client relationships at a senior level — take the lead when required, back the team day-to-day.
  • Partner with Engineering to shape our agentic systems and internal tooling that multiply team output and set Masse apart from other agencies.

What We're Looking For - Essential

  • Deep, demonstrable SEO experience — real case studies, real wins, consistent outcomes in tech
  • Extensive agency leadership experience, including managing and growing a strategy or account team.
  • Strong startup experience — you understand the world our clients live in because you've lived in it.
  • A first-principles understanding of SEO and AEO — not just what the latest LinkedIn playbook says, but why it works and where to start when it stops.
  • Track record of hiring, developing and holding an SEO team accountable to high standards
  • Senior client relationship experience with real accountability — not just reporting, but owning accounts.
  • Confident, conversational communication style — as comfortable with senior leaders on a call as in an engineering Slack channel.
