Summary: The Applied AI Systems Engineer role is a contract position focused on the development and deployment of AI-enabled systems in secure operational environments. The engineer will engage in hands-on engineering tasks, including software development and infrastructure support, across various deployment environments. This position requires collaboration throughout the delivery lifecycle, from prototyping to operational support. Candidates should have a strong technical background and experience in mission-oriented settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing, building, and deploying AI-enabled applications and operational tooling
- Supporting deployments across cloud, on-premise, and offline/air-gapped environments
- Configuring and troubleshooting Linux systems, GPU infrastructure, networking, and deployment environments
- Building APIs, dashboards, and operational interfaces using technologies such as FastAPI, React, Streamlit, and TypeScript
- Supporting AI inference platforms, RAG pipelines, vector databases, and local LLM deployments
- Packaging and transferring technical capability into secure or disconnected environments
- Rapid prototyping for operational use cases, demonstrations, and evolving requirements
- Producing deployment documentation, technical guides, and operational SOPs
- Working directly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders during deployments and delivery activity
- Contributing to wider architecture, infrastructure, and technical design decisions
Key Skills:
- Strong experience with Python, TypeScript, Bash, and Linux environments
- Hands-on experience with Docker, secure infrastructure, and cloud/on-prem deployments
- Experience supporting AI-enabled systems and GPU-based workloads
- Strong troubleshooting and systems engineering skills
- Previous experience within defence, secure, or mission-focused environments
- Understanding of secure-by-design principles and operational deployment constraints
- Comfortable working in fast-moving environments with evolving requirements

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building, deploying, and supporting mission-oriented capability across cloud, on-premise, and air-gapped infrastructure.
