Summary: The Process Engineer I role is designed for early-career professionals in the life sciences sector, specifically within a small molecule manufacturing company. The position involves providing technical support for new product introductions and production process development, collaborating with various departments to optimize and scale processes. Candidates will be responsible for developing manufacturing processes, authoring technical documents, and ensuring compliance with safety practices. This is a 5-month contract position with potential for extension, based in San Diego, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, pilot, and transfer organic chemistry small molecule manufacturing processes to meet production volumes and product timelines, with supervision; execute pilot and production builds as needed
  • Build and sustain reliable and safe pilot and manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, and changeovers; resolve technical problems during investigations
  • Author technical documents including engineering reports, protocols, and qualification/validation documents to meet compliance and change management requirements
  • Other duties as assigned; individual responsibilities may evolve based on business needs

Key Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Chemical Engineering or Chemistry strongly preferred (Biochemistry or Biomedical Engineering may be considered)
  • 0–2 years of related experience; relevant lab coursework may be considered in lieu of direct industry experience
  • Experience working in a chemistry lab with compliance to all safety practices
  • Problem-solving and reasoning skills with ability to work under supervision
  • Ability to receive instruction, act on feedback, and follow standard procedures consistently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to collaborate with diverse stakeholders

Our client is an established life science / small molecule manufacturing company seeking early-career Process Engineers to join their Manufacturing Technology and Transfer group. They are looking for driven, talented individuals who will provide technical support during new product introduction and production process development, partnering cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Production, Supply Chain, Facilities, and E&HS to develop, optimize, and scale up processes for new products.
