Key Responsibilities:
- Support a variety of IT projects, including resolving security audit findings and closing security vulnerabilities.
- Administer and maintain network systems, acting as a 3rd line escalation point for Service Desk tickets.
- Contribute to large-scale projects while balancing project work and business-as-usual support.
- Produce and maintain network diagrams using Visio.
- Administer monitoring tools such as Solarwinds.
Key Skills:
- CCNA or equivalent experience.
- Expertise in setting up and maintaining VPNs.
- General firewall and switch configuration experience, particularly with Cisco and HP switches.
- Experience troubleshooting BT routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with security audit remediations and addressing vulnerabilities flagged by scanners and pen tests.
- Windows Server and VMWare administration experience is an advantage.

Network Engineer – Contract Birmingham (hybrid working, 2 days per week WFH) Up to £550 p/d - I nside IR35 Network Engineer required to join the IT Department of a well-known and public-facing critical national infrastructure business (circa 2000 staff, 20 in IT with approx. 40 sites in the UK), providing services to hundreds-of-thousands. You’ll operate as part of a small, highly capable IT team supporting fairly complex Infrastructure and contributing to large-scale projects. You'll initially be supporting a variety of projects detailed below, including assisting in resolving a number of security audit findings and closing off security vulnerabilities flagged up by a recent pen-test. You will also support the general administration and maintenance of network system and act as a 3rd line escalation point for tickets escalated up from the Service Desk. Currently the role is split circa 50% Project vs 50% BAU support.
Minimum required skills and experience:
- CCNA (or equivalent experience)
- Expert in setting up and maintaining VPNs
- General Firewall / Switch configuration; experience with both Cisco and HP Switches would be beneficial, as would any exposure to CheckPoint firewalls.
- Troubleshooting faulty sites - BT routers / Switch / Firewalls.
- Experience of Security Audit remediations would be beneficial; addressing vulnerabilities flagged by scanners (in this case, Tenable), and Pen tests.
- Production / maintenance of Network Diagrams (Visio)
- Solarwinds administration (or similar monitoring tool).
- Windows Server / VMWare Administration an advantage (not a requirement).
Initial 3 month contract (very likely to extend) Location; Birmingham with flexibility to work from home two days per week. Occasional travel (paid) to other UK sites required.
