Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer role is a contract position based in Basildon, focusing on developing and improving manufacturing processes within the Defence & Security sector. The engineer will be responsible for various tasks, including process design, documentation review, and mentoring junior team members. This fully onsite role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing principles and effective leadership skills. The position is classified as inside IR35 and offers a competitive hourly rate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
- Preparing and organising Manufacturing Maturity Reviews, maintaining governance through the Lifecycle Management process, and creating or reviewing Manufacturing Plans.
- Providing manufacturing decision-making information and resolution proposals.
- Improving manufacturing efficiency by analysing capacity, planning workflows, determining space requirements, and designing equipment layouts.
- Reviewing manufacturing documentation, including input to process-specific risk assessments, COSHH data, technical reports, and specifications.
- Assuring product and process quality by designing methods, validating/verifying process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
- Contributing to failure investigations and problem-solving techniques (e.g. 8D).
- Mentoring, coaching, and developing junior team members to build overall capability.
Key Skills:
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience in a similar role.
- In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
- People management and leadership skills, including effective performance and change management.
- Ability to influence and negotiate using data and analysis to support reasoning.
- A thorough understanding of the operational framework and business processes.
- Experience in planning and scheduling workload for self and others.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of multiple phases of the Product Life Cycle and associated processes.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a non-technical way.
