Summary: The IBM Z Technical Specialist – Db2 System Programmer is tasked with managing and maintaining the Db2 environment on IBM Z platforms, focusing on installation, customization, upgrades, and ongoing support. This role ensures system stability, performance, and security while contributing to improvements in the mainframe ecosystem. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and strong problem-solving skills to support complex database operations effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain Db2 for z/OS and associated tools.
- Support Db2 environment operations, including upgrades, maintenance, and functional testing of backup systems.
- Perform performance monitoring, tuning, and optimization of Db2 systems.
- Manage database security, including implementation of RACF/ACF2 access controls.
- Support and maintain third-party tools from IBM, Broadcom, and other vendors.
- Contribute to database planning, design, and capacity management.
- Ensure system availability through disaster recovery planning and support.
- Provide operational support and handle incident resolution, escalations, and coordination with support teams.
- Develop and maintain documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Key Skills:
- Strong expertise in Db2 for z/OS, including installation, customization, and maintenance.
- Solid understanding of SMP/E within MVS environments.
- In-depth knowledge of relational database concepts.
- Hands-on experience with Db2 tools from IBM, Broadcom, and other vendors.
- Experience in performance tuning, database sizing, and system support.
- Knowledge of security frameworks such as RACF/ACF2.
- Familiarity with IBM utilities, JCL, access methods, and file structures.
- Experience with Db2 monitoring tools and software maintenance processes.
- Understanding of disaster recovery concepts and implementation.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
- 8–12 years of relevant experience in mainframe and Db2 system programming.
- Good understanding of ITIL processes and service management practices.
- Strong technical leadership and ownership mindset.
- Experience with REXX and CLIST scripting.
- Exposure to automation and scripting for system management.
