Summary: This Financial Accountant position offers an opportunity to join an international cultural organization during a finance transformation phase. The role involves leading year-end processes, ensuring compliance, and providing accounting support across multiple entities. The successful candidate will work closely with senior stakeholders to strengthen financial controls and improve systems. This is a 6-month fixed-term contract with the potential for extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the year-end close process independently, including preparation of statutory accounts and audit schedules
- Prepare and post journals with appropriate supporting documentation
- Complete bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations
- Manage month-end processes including cut-offs, accruals and prepayments
- Support and respond to audit queries while maintaining ongoing finance operations
- Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with financial procedures
- Assist with clearing historic accounting backlogs and resolving legacy issues
- Support reporting requirements for externally funded programmes
- Contribute to process improvements, automation and systems development within a changing finance environment
Key Skills:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or qualified by experience
- Proven experience leading year-end close and managing audits
- Strong technical accounting knowledge
- Excellent reconciliation and control account experience
- Experience supporting cash to accrual accounting transitions desirable
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with finance systems undergoing change (Xero desirable)
- High attention to detail with strong documentation discipline
- Able to work independently, prioritise effectively and meet strict deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support colleagues in a small, evolving team

This Financial Accountant role is an exciting opportunity to join a globally recognised cultural organisation during a significant period of finance transformation. With a £10m turnover and an entirely new finance team in place, this position will play a critical role in strengthening controls, leading year-end processes, and ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting. Working closely with the Finance Director and senior stakeholders, you will provide hands-on accounting support across multiple entities, taking ownership of core financial processes while helping to clear historic backlogs and improve systems and controls.
