Summary: The role of PostgreSQL DBA involves managing and administering databases, specifically PostgreSQL and MongoDB, within the finance industry. The position requires hands-on experience in database management, troubleshooting, and ensuring database security and integrity. The DBA will also collaborate with various technical teams and contribute to software development processes. This is a 6-month contract position based in Manchester with a hybrid working arrangement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and administer PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases.
- Work with database software to store, organize, and manage data.
- Keep databases up to date, troubleshoot issues, and assist with database design and development.
- Design and implement maintenance procedures.
- Liaise with programmers, operational staff, and IT project managers.
- Manage database security, integrity, and backup procedures.
- Write reports, documentation, and operating manuals.
- Test and modify databases for reliability.
- Develop disaster recovery plans and manage data archiving/housekeeping.
- Utilize knowledge of cloud platforms and serverless architecture.
- Mentor junior staff and support activities.
Key Skills:
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Oracle.
- Expert knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL data stores.
- Experience with distributed data processing technologies.
- Ability to design maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and serverless architecture.
- Understanding of software patterns and their application.
- Familiarity with Kafka is advantageous.
- Experience in Agile/DevOps environments.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Ability to mentor and support team members.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced PostgreSQL DBA to join our client on an exciting contract in the finance industry.
Primary Skills:
- Must have hands-on experience as Database Administration specifically with MongoDB, PostgreSQL / Oracle.
- Managing a oracle team
- Working with database software to find ways to store, organise and manage data
- Expert knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL data stores and working with a variety of structures, including JSON and XML
- Experience of software development with distributed data processing technologies including Oracle, MongoDB, PostgreSQL
- Experience in keeping databases up to date, troubleshooting, helping with database design & development, and managing database access.
- Experience in designing maintenance procedures and putting them into operation.
- Liaising with programmers, applications/operational staff, IT project managers and other technical staff
- Managing database security/integrity and backup procedures, implementing security measures.
Secondary Skills:
- Writing reports, documentation, and operating manuals
- Testing and modifying databases to ensure that they operate reliably
- Writing disaster recovery plans and archiving/housekeeping data.
- Knowledge of Cloud platforms, serverless architecture preferable
- Good understanding of software patterns and when/how to apply them
- Knowledge of Kafka will be advantageous
- Experience of working in an Agile/DevOps software development environment
- Have ability to help with mentoring tasks.
- Have experience in working on Support activities.
