Summary: The Cost Accountant role involves joining a successful manufacturing group as part of a growing accounting team for an 18-month fixed-term contract. Key Responsibilities:

  • Review site variances weekly to ensure data accuracy.
  • Challenge operational teams to improve stock/costing KPIs.
  • Manage and develop a small UK cost/stock team.
  • Provide month-end commentary for manufacturing variances.
  • Update labour rates on costs and production volumes.
  • Improve stock management processes and stock analysis.
  • Support working capital reduction and perform monthly cost roll-up.
  • Assist with internal/external audits.
  • Ensure strong financial controls around engineering spares.
  • Liaise with purchasing for latest costs and conduct commercial analysis.
  • Seek out process improvements in costs/stock processes.
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as required by senior financial management.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in a similar costing and stock accounting position.
  • Knowledge of costing and stock processes, ideally in manufacturing.
  • Key MS Excel skills and experience with financial systems.
  • Ability to manage workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Experience supervising or developing team members.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills for building relationships at all levels.
  • ACCA/CIMA/ACA part-qualified/qualified or qualified by experience.
  • Experience with SAP financial system is advantageous but not essential.

Your new company Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering exclusively with an established & successful manufacturing group to recruit an experienced & dynamic Cost & Stock Accountant to join their growing accounting team based near Leominster, Herefordshire, for an 18-month fixed-term contract. The position will report directly to the Financial Controller to ensure that costing and stock processes are adhered to, providing analysis to support important business decisions using costing/stock data, along with driving efficiencies within the department. You will supervise & develop a small cost/stock accounting team, along with supporting ad-hoc projects. This position will offer remote/office hybrid working, along with flexible working hours & a competitive benefit package. Your new role Your key duties will involve reviewing various site variances weekly to ensure accuracy of data, challenging the operational teams to improve stock/costing KPI's, and ensuring that standard costs are an accurate reflection of cost to manufacture. You will manage/develop a small UK cost/stock team to ensure their development & support, provide commentary at month-end for manufacturing variances, update labour rates on costs & production volumes, improve stock management processes & stock analysis. You will support working capital reduction, perform the monthly cost roll-up for all materials across the sites & assist with internal/external audits. You will ensure there are strong financial controls around engineering spares & liaise with purchasing for the latest costs, along with commercial analysis to confirm/explain cost and price movements. You will demonstrate a continuous improvement mind-set, seeking out process improvement in costs/stock processes, along with ad-hoc duties required by senior financial management. What you'll need to succeed To be considered for this Costing & Stock Accountant role, you will need experience in a similar position, with knowledge of costing & stock processes ideally within the manufacturing sector. Key MS Excel skills, trained in a range of financial systems with the ability to manage workloads to meet deadlines. You will have experience supervising, developing, or managing other team members, excellent organisational skills, with strong attention to detail. You will have a proactive approach to continuous improvement, along with strong communication skills to build internal/external relationships at all levels, including non-financial management. You will be ACCA/CIMA/ACA part-qualified/qualified or qualified by experience. Experience with SAP financial system would be advantageous but not essential.
