Key Responsibilities:

  • Create pixel art, sprites, props, tilesets, and animations for the game.

Detailed Description From Employer:

We’re looking for an experienced game artist with specific skills in 2D game development, pixel art and animation. Additionally, you must have strong technical knowledge, which includes the processes for sprite and tileset creation, and assembling assets into levels. You will be working directly with the lead programmer and lead artist to support development of a 2D game based on a major Hollywood IP, across the range of modern (PlayStation, Nintendo, Steam, and Xbox) and retro platforms. This opportunity is for game artists with at least one shipped game title and one or more years’ experience, and specifically some technical knowledge around tools, processes and game runtime requirements.

Key Skills and Knowledge:

  • An outstanding pixel art portfolio, demonstrating skills in sprites, props, tilesets, animations for all of the above.
  • A knowledge of Unity’s 2D lighting system under the Universal Render Pipeline.
  • Experience with Tile Map Editor, ideally Tiled at an intermediate level. Including creating animated tilesets, and layering them into levels.
  • Experience with the Spine 2D animation system (from Esoteric Software) is a bonus.
  • Attention to detail when creating sprite sheets, tilesets and other assets, making sure to follow specifications and requirements.
  • Must be comfortable with source control systems and game asset management pipelines. Specifically, we use Git (as hosted on BitBucket).
  • Provide clear, daily updates on progress and blockers to the team, via Slack, Trello, Planyway and other production tools.

What We’re Looking For:

  • One or more years’ development experience and at least one shipped game title.
  • Able to adapt to the existing (reasonably mature) art style of the game.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a structured and proactive mindset.
  • A team player with great communication skills, happy to work closely with leads.
  • Able to work core UK hours, remote, hybrid or on site in our Southampton office.
  • Have your own development hardware (Windows or Mac ideally)
